In the sporting world, men’s athletic gear always seems to be something of an afterthought. Yet more and more men are moving away from the weight bench or running track as their only exercise hotspot. In a world where you’re taking a fitness class, spinning, cranking out a yoga or pilates routine, or toning up with CrossFit and HIIT, you need gym gear you can depend on- and that’s not baggy board shorts from the 90s but now it’s easy with Men’s Leggings.
Matador Meggings have carved itself out a niche as the go-to brand for men looking for leggings that are comfortable, hard-wearing, and provide a great fit. Plus, they’ve built a global community of ‘Bulls’, men from all walks of life united by their love of comfortable Men’s Leggings.

In-depth Matador Meggings Review – Men’s Leggings
Let’s be honest. Women’s athleisure has taken off in a big way, and we haven’t really seen anything equivalent in the men’s market. Yoga pants and leggings take women from work to the store and the gym, and no one blinks.
Men’s workout leggings are out there, but most men- myself included- may see them as a bit of a ‘peacock’s’ choice. Something for the guy who’s already got rock-hard abs, rather than you and me just doing our best to stay fit. Let alone wearing them around town.
Compression gear has changed that a little, and tight workout gear is no longer just the province of cyclists and that super-jacked guy taking selfies. But most of us are still hesitant.
Are Men’s Leggings the missing secret to a comfortable day in the gym? I decided to find out.
So, What’s a Meggings?
Matador Meggings are compression leggings for men. Very much for men, as they’re specifically created with the male anatomy in mind. Most Joe Normals like me avoid tight workout wear for fear of what’s going to fall out, slip out, or bulge. Meggings promise to address all three issues.
They were created by Valentine Aseyo, a somewhat intimidatingly fit yoga instructor and entrepreneur when he realized he was the only yogi in the room who couldn’t wear practical leggings and simply hit the mat for fear of flashing the entire room. Unable to find a pair of Men’s Leggings that didn’t feel like the male range was an afterthought, he decided to make his own.
Why Matador?
He turned to the bull-fighting matadors for inspiration. Form-fitting, functional clothes, but with some flair. But he didn’t just build a brand. It seems he built a community along with it. The brand’s voice lies with its ‘Bulls’, an all-inclusive community of men from all sorts of backgrounds, preaching a message of feeling comfortable in your skin as well as your meggings. While many of them seem to be intimidatingly chiseled, and I guess that’s a side effect of any tight gym wear anywhere, it was good to see all sorts of bodies represented in the brand’s personality.
FWIW, Matador is environmentally friendly, focusing on water recycling, chemical use reduction, and a conscious mindset that works with partners who care about their staff.
Features and Fit
So what’s all the anatomically-friendly hype? When I dug my pair out to try, I suddenly got it.
Fit and no-VPL Tech – Men’s Leggings
There’s a molded crotch cup for a little support downstairs, as well as avoiding VPL, the brand’s signature fit feature. What’s VPL? Visible Penis Line- in other words, the battle of the publicly visible bulge. No lies, once they were on, the area in question was neatly packaged and perfectly presentable. I wasn’t left feeling uncomfortable, as with so much tight men’s wear. I’d probably still wear a long shirt, but bolder men won’t feel uncomfortable without it.
The brand was true to size, and when I tested it with a squat, it held firm. The waistband lived up to its no-roll promise, and an inner drawstring made some fit adjustments. The waist sat just below the belly button- call it a medium rise. If you’re very straight-up-and-down, it might be a little difficult to find the sweet spot, but the average dude is going to be fine. The fabric was sturdy and didn’t feel flimsy or transparent.
Features of Men’s Leggings
The wicking wasn’t bad. On a muggy day, you’ll want shorts (the range has them, too) but it’s otherwise good. The ‘precious cargo’ was hitched and comfortable. The compression is mild, tighter at the calf than the glutes, and comfortable to wear.
There are two pockets, one zipped, which sits flat on the skin for stowing your stuff. A small loophole at the back holds a towel (or a shirt if you’re brave).
Who Should Wear Matadors – Men’s Leggings?
So, who are these leggings for?
I’m going to go out there and say anyone brave enough to try form-fitting pants. Especially if you need a full range of movement in the gym, or want to try out mild compression gear. Despite the amount of rock-hard abs flashed on their social media channels, the brand is very embracing and diverse, and you’ll see all sorts of people in the ‘Bull’ community.
They’re comfortable enough for leisurewear, there are subtle and loud color combos enough to appease any fashionista, and they’re sturdy and covering. Plus, the no-VPL cup leaves at least something to the imagination.
They’re not the cheapest you’ll find, but I’ve never seen anything with a specific design, quality fabrics, and a green leaning that’s any cheaper, and it’s not exorbitant by any stretch, especially for workout wear. A 30-day return and free shipping on orders are a nice touch and let you get your size perfectly. It’s nice to find a brand with true sizing these days, too. Such a wide range of prints is very unusual in men’s fashion and has a nice touch.
While form-fitting workout gear isn’t going to be every man’s cup of tea, if you’re game to try it, try these. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. I certainly wasn’t. While I still haven’t quite worked up the confidence to wear them as a fashion statement, they’ve made it to my regular gym rota for sure.
